An exhibition "The Cruiser Aurora in the history of the Fatherland" has been opened in the exhibition complex of the Central Naval Museum, which presents the exhibits of a branch of the Central Naval Museum on board the cruiser "Aurora", which is now under scheduled maintenance. The makers of the exhibition made every effort to convey the atmosphere of the legendary cruiser to the museum halls.
The "Aurora" is a rank 1 cruiser of the Baltic Fleet of the "Diana" type. Built in the New Admiralty in St. Petersburg in 1903. Named in honor of the sailing frigate "Aurora" famous for the defense of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky during the Crimean War. The cruiser "Aurora" took part in the Russian-Japanese war of 1904-1905, particularly the Battle of Tsushima on May 14-15, 1905, in the First World War of 1914-1918, in the Civil War of 1918-1922 in Russia and in Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, particularly in the defense of Leningrad.
In 1956 on board the cruiser "Aurora" a branch of the Central Naval Museum was set up.
The exposition of the ship’s museum was located in six halls. The exposition of the ship’s museum numbered about 300 museum items, including models of ships, paintings, items of marine practice and life, documents and photographs.
21 September 2014 the cruiser "Aurora" left its anchorage for the first time since 1987. The museum ship accompanied by tugboats passed under the drawn Troitsky, Dvortsovy, and Blagoveshchensky bridges and headed for the dock of the Kronstadt Marine Plant to undergo scheduled maintenance.
