The largest project of the Restoration and Art Workshop of the Central Naval Museum in recent years has been the restoration of the 51-gun screw frigate Alexander Nevsky, which is made on a scale of 1:32.
The model was made in 3 months between October 1868 and January 1869 in the Model Workshop of the Maritime Museum by order of the governor of the Maritime Ministry. It was built according to the drawings sent from Kronstadt.
In 1869, the model was presented to Grand Duke Alexei Alexandrovich and subsequently kept in the palace collections. In 1870, it was temporarily taken from the Winter Palace for display at the All-Russian Manufactory Exhibition as an example of the work of the Model Workshop of the Maritime Museum.
In 1885, Grand Duke Alexei Alexandrovich transferred the model for temporary storage to the Maritime Museum, where it remained until March 1895, when it was awarded to the Naval Cadet Corps. After the liquidation of the latter in 1925, the frigate model returned to the Central Naval Museum.
