2019 marks 310 years since the Foundation of the collection of the Central naval Museum (CVMM) — one of the largest and oldest Maritime museums in the world. The history of the Museum has long been an integral part of the history of the national fleet. At the jubilee exhibition, the history of CVMM is presented as a process of forming its Museum collections, which made CVMM the national Maritime Museum of Russia, the "Treasury of the Russian fleet", the Keeper of its traditions and military glory. The chronological framework of the exhibition covers the history of the collection of CVMM from the first "half-models" of the era of Peter I to the last most valuable acquisitions. A separate section of the exhibition is devoted to the work of the employees of the Workshop of marine painters, working at the Central naval Museum since 1952.
The Central Naval Museum presented the exhibition "Heroes of mercy and self-sacrifice. On the 110th anniversary of the rescue of Russian sailors of the inhabitants of Messina", dedicated to the sad anniversary of the earthquake that befell more than a century ago, Sicily and destroyed the city of Messina. Terrible destruction claimed thousands of lives in Calabria in southern Italy. To help the victims came the crews of ships of the Midshipman detachment of the Baltic fleet.

History knows many examples of woman's service at sea and in the fleet. During the Great Northern Expedition of 1733-1743, a commander of one of the detachments was Lieutenant Vasilii Pronchishchev; his young wife Tatyana shipped out together with him, which was the first case of its kind in the history of the great Arctic expeditions.
The Decree on the establishment of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Fleet (WPRN) was passed by the Council of People's Commissars on January 29, 1918 (February 11, new style). This decree, as well as the Decree on organization of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army (WPRA), published on January 15 (28) of the same year, laid the foundation for the establishment of a new type of armed forces - the army and the fleet of the workers and peasants.
It is difficult to overestimate the tremendous importance of the Navy in the history of Russia. The Central Naval Museum is a treasury of relics pertaining to historical battles and great victories, development of marine science and technological progress. However, the passion for the sea in the fate of people who decided to devote their life to fleet plays no less important role. Engendered in the young years, the love for the sea is retained through all one’s life and manifests itself not only in a longstanding service, but also in minor details. The exhibition "The Fleet in Miniature" is devoted to the "private" history of the fleet, presenting personal household items from the collection of the Central Naval Museum.
On October 19 2017, the Central Naval Museum and the Submarine Research Centre under the Russian Geographical Society opened the exhibition "Plunging into the dark. Dedicated to 135th anniversary of the first national diving school in Kronshtadt".
On 28 September 2017, an exhibition Patron of the Russian Navy General Admiral Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich dedicated to the 190th anniversary of this outstanding figure of the Russian naval history was opened at the exhibition complex of the Central Naval Museum.
The exhibition displays the oldest English sailor shirt from the Central Naval Museum collection, the sailor shirt that once belonged to the historical and naval novelist Valentin Pikul and other exhibits, including painted portraits displaying the heroes of the Revolution in their naval glory.

Over fifty unique photographs have been collected for the exposition, that convey the romance of the sea and the grandeur of the white-snow frigates. The photography process lasted for 20 years (!), and the covered geography encompasses the immense sea and ocean space of the both hemispheres.
Naval victories are achieved not only in battles. Becoming a great naval power, Russia actively participated in conquering the expanse of the World Ocean in the 18th – 19th centuries. The voyages of the Russian naval sailors marked a memorable page in the history of the Russian fleet.

the Russian Naval Officer P.I. Ibis» Exhibition is introduced by the Central Naval Museum in
cooperation with the Department of Culture of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation,
the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian State Navy Archive and
Pobeda Development Center.
The exhibition marking the 150th birth anniversary of the seascape painter N. D. Prokofiev opened on the 16th of June 2016 at the Central Naval Museum. It features the artist’s drawings and watercolors portraying the ships of the Russian navy. The exposition has been complemented with some items from the CNM reserve collection, which are directly connected to the ships that the painter dedicated his work to or portray the structure and design of the ships built in the late XIX or the early XX century.
